What does it take to train a Dog?

Before buying a dog many people wonder what it takes to actually train a dog.  Well I say that this is what many people wonder but the truth is that not enough people give this enough thought and they are content to just buy a dog and see what happens without any real thought to what it takes out of them, time wise, and even physically and emotionally.  The fact is that there are no secrets to dog training all there is is tried and tested ways to train a dog to be obedient.  The the truth is that what it really takes is a commitment from the whole family to understand the the dog is not a human being and they all need to take some time out to understand dogs and their behaviors so that they can help the dog to be happy and in that way helping the whole family to raise a happy,obedient dog.
