Who Are You?

If I ask you the question, “who are you,” you might respond with your name. You might also think of a title you hold, like “head of the company” or “a teacher” or something similar. None of that answers the deeper question of course. If you try to answer that, you might start describing yourself, but at the same time you know that you are not your body alone, nor your education, nor your feelings. You are all of these things and more.

What is most fascinating to consider though, is that you are not who you think you are. Thoughts are just ideas, and though it is easy to think we “know” ourselves, our own thoughts about ourselves are only marginally related to the reality when we look closer. We may never have a good answer (in words) for who we are, but perhaps a good start is to see who and what we are not.
