VNS as epilepsy treatment in North America

Vagus Nerve Stimulation or VNS is also another epilepsy treatment in North America. This kind of treatment involves the use of a device that is like a pace-maker in which sends electrodes to the vagus nerve to stimulate it and to stop the activities in the brain that are thought to be the cause of seizures. This is done while the person with epilepsy is asleep due to a general anesthesia. During his sleep, a stimulator machine will be used. The wire from the machine will be connected to his skin, usually in the neck.  VNS can be better for people for who have found been helped by antiepileptic drugs and are not good for surgery.
