One of the fondest memories of my great family vacation is when we visited my grandparents who lived in the outskirts of the city. We traveled for around 2 hours thru highway and heavy traffic. When we got to our ancestral house, we had a taste of real country living. My grandparents’ house was built overlooking a lake so every morning we literally had a breath of fresh air. We had breakfast of hot chocolate and fried fish freshly caught from the lake.  The house had a backyard where there was an orchard of fruit bearing trees and a vegetable patch. We spent half the day picking fresh fruits from the trees and harvesting vegetables which we used to make garden salad for our lunch and dinner.

This year we had the occasion to vacation in Boston, and already I can’t wait to go back.  It has such an old world feel that you simply can’t find anywhere else in America.  Next time we go back, I will be staying in the Boston Cambridge hotel and enjoying the proximity to MIT, Harvard, and the view across the river.  With easy subway access, it’s hard to beat the convenience, the location, the hotel amenities, or the view.  Hopefully this trip we will get to see a few stops on the Freedom trail that we skipped last time because of the rain, and will make an effort to eat Italian food every single night!

I arrived in Houston and headed straight to the car rental depot to pick up the vehicle I was going to be using for the next ten days. I had somewhat of a plan in place, first of all I would spend a couple of days there, then head over to Galveston as I had heard it was quite a nice little place to check out. A good friend of mine lives up in Louisiana which worked out to be not too far away and seeing as I had not been there before I thought I may as well drive up there and have a look.

My daughter has been helping one of her best friends prepare for her wedding. They have taken care of the gowns, have everything arranged with the church, ordered flowers, have a place for the reception and even have booked a caterer and a band. The only thing that she and her fiance haven’t yet taken care of is where they’re going on their honeymoon. They’re looking at cheap honeymoon destinations that are also romantic. Every other detail has been taken care of. Her fiance says that he doesn’t care where they go, as long as they’re together. My daughter thinks that he’s just avoiding making a decision.
